Morning Thoughts

If our actions are not purposefully glorifying God, then they don’t have any significance. They won’t be remembered and God will not acknowledge these actions (or thoughts); they will not last when being tested by the flames of judgement. Not talking about going to church or “doing the right thing”, but about EVERY action being done with the purpose of bringing God’s glory to attention and while allowing the Holy Spirit to work on our hearts.

This is important, because it applies to everybody. If there is this one God, and what the bible says about Him is true, then everyone’s actions will be judged. That is, unless you have professed to belief in the name of Jesus and chosen to follow Him with your life; in this case He completely wipes the slate clean, not so that we can go on sinning, but that we can live freely for Him.

Just things I have been thinking about this morning/afternoon. Of course these thoughts are concerning my own actions, but I thought I would share as a friendly reminder to everyone how important our actions are to God and each other. Our actions speak many words and they should exemplify what we believe. I am trying to do this more and more fully in my life.

Using Your Voice To Say Things

Singing is the hardest thing anybody ever has to do. At least in my opinion. There’s so much to it and it takes so much practice and time commitment to do it well, and even then the whole world is your critic. We are so opinionated about singing, and liking a particular singer’s voice over another’s. Maybe there’s a reason for that.

To be able to sing means that you need to put in the time. You need to sing a ton before you can even sing a song. Then you need to do it more. And when you sing you are singing words: this means to practice diction, memorizing lyrics, and so on. It also means that you are telling your story. And that is my point. Yes, you are telling the story of the song, and that is important, but you are telling your story. When you sing, you are inviting people to see a glimpse (maybe more than a glimpse; maybe not so much as a glimpse; who knows?) of your soul. You say, “Look, here. Listen. This is me; this is what I am. This is who I’ve been and this is who I’m not. This is me.”

Telling stories is difficult, especially the story of you. The other day I just had a friend (shortly after meeting her for the first time) ask, “So, what’s your story?” How do you answer that? Not easily, I’ll say that. To sum up all that you are in a few sentences, or even a few words. Crazy hard. But that’s what singing is, and that is what I strive to do every time I sing a song.
